GREENLAND - Artic Ice

Photos: Alessio Romeo

The expedition 'Graal II' has been organized by the French speleological association Spele'Ice, created and lead by the speleologist Serge Aviotte at his 14° expedition on the Greenland glaciers. The explored area is approximately 80 km north of Ilulissat, on the eastern coast of Greenland, on the 70° parallel at 1,000 m on the sea-level, 25 km from the coast. The aim of the expedition is to explore new glacial cavities, scientifically identified as 'glacial mills', and above all to follow the tracks of the French explorer Paul Emile Victor. Victor has left several diaries with detailed descriptions of his expeditions and the dangers encountered in Greenland and he is still an example for modern pioneers.
