The basic rule to shoot a good story is in a sentence well known by reporters: “f 5.6 and be there”. Knowing how to get “there” and, once arrived, how to move around, to interact with the environment and the local people, to make your presence there seem perfectly natural: these are the necessary premises to take a picture that works and, more generally, to tell a good story. During a workshop with one of Parallelozero’s photojournalists, you will learn the planning of a reportage, how to use a camera and when it is better not to use it, how to get the best out of the available light, how to look for your subject when it doesn’t seem to be there, how to find the most effective points of view, how to get “there”. At the end, you will know why 5.6 is the best f-stop, but most of all, you’ll know how to tell a good story.
Suitable for photographers who want to go deeper into the storytelling side of photo reportage. Next workshop will be in Milano on May 15th and 16th in Via Gentile Bellini, 6, Milan, inside the headquarters of Fotografi senza Frontiere. Cost will be 250 euros per person. Travel photography is a cross-sectional art that needs an extraordinary capability to adapt, both professionally and personally, to an endless series of situations. First of all, it is vital to simply learn how to travel. Which means dealing with different people of all cultures and always bring the best out of them. And at the same time being able to move in often uncharted, if not hostile, territories and exploit all their photographic potential. It is necessary to study a lot, know and respect foreign countries and cultures and put a great deal of physical effort into the building process of the story. This workshop will teach you how to move in harmony in unexpected and unknown environments, to master photographic techniques useful in any situation, and every other trick to shoot a great travel story.

Beyond its social and artistic implications, the photographic process has basically been a great technical invention. Its final result, the picture, has always been heavily influenced by technical progress, scientific discoveries and fashion of the moment. Today, with the widespread diffusion of digital photography, the revolution has been abrupt, so much so that expressive modalities cannot escape a creative process based on at least a few of the numeric options offered by the market. Digital photography has changed the photographer’s profession not only in its basic aspect, shooting, but mostly in the range of possibilities of arranging, presenting and marketing his or her work. The aim of this workshop is to expand the knowledge of today’s photographer to video making, audio techniques, use of editing and postproduction software, social networks, web-based editorial marketing, in a multi-discipline integration, essential to face the challenges of journalism 2.0.
